day 3

Feb. 3rd, 2007 10:00 pm
sandalstrap: (14 valentines)
Okay, I am just posting the bare bones of this now to get it in while it's still Day 3 - sorry, RL has gotten in the way today.

In 2 hours, when I get back, I will upload some drawings to this post from my life drawing class, all sketches of different women, in honor of the body image theme today. Now, I may be biased because I spend four hours at a time watching these people, but regardless of shape I find all of these women to be incredibly beautiful, and am grateful for the opportunity to draw them every week.

ETA: here are the first two! Oops - now with cut tag.
ETA 2: four more.

day 2

Okay, a little bit of personal history here. (This began as a response I left earlier tonight in this post, and it got me to thinking.) Growing up, I never felt like I was doing it right. I was told directly and indirectly by everyone but my parents that I was too much, that I was not acting like a normal little girl - and I believed it. I went from the little girl who danced on tables and told wild stories and raced the boys and asked the questions to the quiet, shy girl who kept her ideas to herself and waited. Well I, for one, am tired of this. I am tired of trying to "behave," tired of having friends tell me they would never have guessed I was so funny, dorky, fantastic, and relaxed when they first met me. I am allowed to be myself, dammit.

14 Valentines: Women in the Arts.

Day 1

Feb. 1st, 2007 12:26 am
sandalstrap: (14 valentines)
Today, women have more opportunities at our disposal than our great-grandmothers could have ever dreamed of - and we cannot forget that difference. If we band together, keep talking, keep questioning, keep working at this, who knows what else we will end up with?

This is my contribution to the 14 Valentines project.

Warning: image below the cut; completely work-safe.

The newest Winsor McCay collection just came in the mail today, and may I just say HALLELUJAH AMEN.

The book is newsprint size! Newsprint. Size.

And the color, god, the COLOR, and the quality...

I have no words. Only small crazy noises of joy.

Winsor McCay for the win!

Oh whoa, just - everybody read this . Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Talk about unexpected - I may actually cry.

Sheafrotherdon, how are you so awesome? (Yes, David Hewlett, she fills me with awe.)
sandalstrap: (smiley rodney)
I am so, so tired. I need to go sleep, right now, and stop clicking through the photo gallery of Tesla Motors' Roadster of sex . God, it's like the coy, suggestive -but not explicit - pinup porn from the fifties or something. I should not be this turned on by a glimpse of the slight sway at the tip of a car's hind end.

This thing apparently drives like a ninja, a silent, sexy, electric-powered ninja. And: it actually lives up to the Tesla name since it runs off sleek alternating current. God, so hot.

If anybody wrote fic with either Sheppard or Mckay or, ohh, both, (god, any scientists on Atlantis, okay) getting hot for this car, especially if they're finding fault with its design and are turned on anyway, I would just combust right on the spot. And I would die happy.

Oh, today was ridiculous. Like a parody of a bad day from a sitcom or... something. I don't even know. Have you ever had a day so colossally, awesomely, snowballingly bad that it doesn't even seem plausible?

I just, okay, here.

Fun! )

As we drove home, I turned to my dad and said, "I don't care how out of the way it is. All I want out of life right now is a chocolate shake." what I now realize was exactly, completely Rodney McKay's voice.

...and possibly with his scowly face of righteousness. Huh.

Also, hi internet! Long time no use!

HEY HEY LISTEN - it rained on Saturday! *shock and awe*

So the ridiculous 143 day drought has officially been killed by the magic water that falls from the sky, which means it's time to dance our praises to the wonderful wonderful clouds that finally, FINALLY rained on us. Oh yes, great and powerful Sky Above, today we dance for thee and thee alone.

Everybody boogie!

Also, Monday ended up as one of the best days ever. Why? Some fooling around in class, and voila! I am no longer intimidated by painting. And apparently portrait drawing is crazy fun, which is another point for this whole 'art' thing. Yay!

What? What?!! How could I have lived so long without knowing how gorgeous figure skating could be? Irina Slutskaya's short program performance was absolutely astonishing; she was so powerful and alive. It blew me away completely! That really-young-American-girl's spins were fascinating, too - incredibly fast - but, whoa, Slutskaya. Now I'm sad that I missed all the ones before.

Seriously, though, so very gorgeous. I don't have the words for how watching that made me feel. Uplifted, maybe? Maybe. Regardless, Slutskaya needs to win. Go Russia!

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang is amazing. AMAZING, and it is entirely this movie's fault that I cannot stop using that word. Amazing like whoa. Seriously, the amazing-ness of this movie seems to compare inversely with my vocabulary. Amazing! It's just, there's so much content, quality content, constantly hilarious and paying homage to noir/private-eye-tales-of-old and so sarcastic. Aaaaaaaaaaah!

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, take me home with you?

My mom recieved good news today. Wonderful, amazing, joyful, beautiful news! Oh, right now I love everyone!

Her latest PETscan came back negative. Her thyroid cancer is NOT coming back! She doesn't have to go through any more extensive testing, or go off her meds and lose her mind! Oh, I want to kiss everybody - Wooooohoooooo!!

Today is a wonderful wonderful day.

Mmm, finally broke down and got myself livejournaled. Okay, two things to open this baby up : today I discovered and fell in lust, and today I read an SGA fic called Down To You that blew my mind. It is, in fact, the reason I finally livejournaled, because I wanted to comment on the story so badly - I did, only anonymously - and my frustration knocked down the proverbial camel. So thank you, mousewitchy, for your lovely story and unintentional motivation.
